Okay, so recently I’ve been watching “Power” – a TV series about a guy who comes from a poor neighborhood and makes a lot of money selling drugs – and then he decides that he wants to go legit; he wants to leave his past behind and make a legitimate business with his nightclub Truth. So, the series follows the problems he and his family have to face while trying to get out of the drug business and make a legal living running clubs. Obviously, it’s not as easy as it might sound – because all his old friends still try to involve him in drug trafficking, and there always seems to be some crisis or something which stops the guy from simply making a clean break and starting afresh.

A friend of mine recommended the series; I hadn’t heard of it before, but I gave it a try. Watching a couple of episodes, and I kind of liked it. Each episode has good pacing, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention. The plot is also quite well written and has just enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will happen next. Another thing I like about it is that the things that happen are credible; they’re not fantastically impossible scenarios like in some TV series – you can actually imagine how such circumstances might occur in real life and how these people would deal with them. So, the main characters are a guy called Jaimie and his wife Tasha and their two children, and Jaimie’s ex-drug partner Tommy Egan, who is still involved in the drug business. The other main character is government lawyer, Angela Valdez, who has an affair with Jaimie while the special task force she is a member of is trying to prosecute Jaimie and Tommy for drug related crimes. There are some other characters which recur throughout each episode, people who work in the club and other friends and contacts that appear repeatedly throughout the series.

It’s now in season four, although I haven’t watched this current season yet – I watched up until the end of season three, so I guess I’ll catch up with it when I have some more free time. I like watching the episodes all at once rather than one each week. But it’s one of the best TV series I’ve seen for a while – the fact that the time flies past while watching it is always a good sign that it’s enjoyable.

I've played several games, both indoor and outdoor games, and still try to play whenever I get time. Among those games, I enjoyed playing chess more than others. Chess is an indoor game where two players participate. This game does not involve any major physical movements like other outdoor games but a chess player has to use his/her brain and make game plans to defeat the opponent.

I mostly play this game with my friends and cousins. Sometimes I play it with my father and senior relatives. Since playing chess requires only placing the board on a surface and sitting position of the two participating players, it is convenient to play chess almost anywhere. I mostly play it at our veranda, garden or bed room. I enjoy this game because I have a fascination about this game from my childhood and I really like the overall theme and barnstorming involved in this game. It's a thought provoking game that gives the participating players to use their brains. Since the cue card is about your favourite game or sports, you can talk about any indoor or outdoor game or sport you you play or know about. Alternatively you can talk about the computer games as well. If this is an indoor game you want to talk about pick chess, card, table tennis, bowling, karom, computer game, gaming device game or any other game you prefer. For the indoor games you can mention that you regularly play it with your family members or friends and enjoy it a lot. Generally physical exercise is not involved in indoor games except table tennis and you should focus on the mental improvement and enjoyment the indoor games offer. Indoor games are usually played inside homes and you should mention that you play it in your house, veranda, drawing room or in guest room. You should also mention that you play it in your relatives' houses or friends' houses as well.

If you pick an outdoor games like cricket, football, badminton, rugby you should mention that you play it with your friends and some of the neibours. Sometimes unknown people join in such games where more than 7-8 players are needed. Mention that these games are refreshing and a good way of keeping your health fit.

雅思口语备考不能忽略重音和语法

在教学过程中，我碰到了作为雅思老师来讲比较普遍的问题--语法问题比较多。中国学生打算考雅思的时候不要专门学语法，但我觉得语法问题是指练的时候，语法要强调这一点，语法和语言学不一样，千万不要总看语法方面的问题，我觉得总体上还是缺乏口语练习才会出现这样的现象。

还有一些就是比较基本的，像重音，我建议中国学生考雅思的时候要多复习一下，多练一下重音，英文里面很多单词都分成一个单词里面比如一个、两个、三个音节，但中国学生说一些比较简单的单词的时候都没有这个意识和概念，这很重要。

我举一个例子，我发现很多长一点的单词，同学们的重音老是发错，比如像Newspaper，这样的单词虽然简单，但发音的重音没放对。其次语调也是很重要的，这是被中国同学相对忽视的地方，但这也是非常重要的，中国学生说话的时候语言要稍微生动一点，因为很多时候会出现说话像机器人的感觉，就是断断续续的。你可以随便找一些资料，就是一个短短的对话，不要太长，可以配磁带听，要尽量模仿，这是中国学生比较缺乏的。

别的没有发现太大问题，流畅方面没有问题，连贯也没有什么太大问题，都是一些语法、重音、发音的问题，中国学生要是打算考雅思，可以多做一些这方面的练习。

Because where I 'm from, it seems to rain the whole time, and when it' s not raining, the sky 's usually quite cloudy or smoggy, so we don' t really get all that much sun in my hometown, but hopefully this year will be a bit better -fingers crossed!

Anyway, regarding what I usually do when it 's sunny, well I guess it probably depends on how much free time I have. So I mean, if I only have a little bit of free time, then I might just go for a walk around my neighbourhood or chill out for a bit in the gardens of my apartmentcomplex. And if I have more time, then I might arrange to play some tennis or basketball with a few friends.

And with regard to how this kind of weather affects me, well basically, I 'd say it normally always puts me in a good mood. So for example, waking up with the sun shining through the windows is always a great feeling, as I 'm sure you 'll agree. And another thing to mention would be that the traffic usually tends to be better on sunny days than rainy days or smoggy days, so it means that I can get to work quicker. It 's funny, because it always seems that there are more cars on the road on rainy days or smoggy days.

So yeah, I guess that pretty much sums it up, and I wish I could wake up to a bright sunny day every morning!

第一走出去，不仅能听得见自己的发音，也能听见别人的发音。

雅思口语技巧一：转移法

顾名思义，就是把回答问题时的风险转移规避出去。在口语考试过程中，时不时会出现怪异刁钻的题目，或者说是自己根本没有准备过并不熟悉的题目。在此情况下考生究竟应该如何应对呢?是坦白的告诉考官自己不会呢?还是不分黑白乱侃一通呢?其实答案是也不是。

在此情况下，考生应该机警的应对，采用风险转移法。以第一部分考到的“鸟”的题目为例。考官问道：“What are the most popular birds in China and what meanings do they have?” 其实先别提大多数考生是否知道在中国流行的鸟究竟有哪些，事实上应该连鸟的英文名字都叫不上来一两个，就更别提他们的含义了。这时候怎么办?总不能不回答问题吧?好办。考生可以坦然地告诉考官：“I don’t really know much about birds.”或者干脆说：“I don’t know.”但是记住，这永远不是问题回答的结束。接下来一定要说“but”。可是but之后又该说什么呢?胡侃瞎侃可以吗?完全可以，但是风险要转嫁出去。考生可以用一个简单的转移技巧：“but one of my friends is crazy about birds, and he used to tell me...” 你看这样子即使考生接下来乱侃一通，考官也不能指责考生，因为这些内容根本就是听别人说的嘛，要怪也要去怪别人吧。

雅思口语技巧二：昵称法

所谓昵称法就是给自己所要谈的人或物冠以昵称，以体现考生对英语更灵活的掌握和对问题更巧妙地回答而使之成为一个闪光点。就人来说，考生可以使用Mr.， Miss或 Mrs.加上一个人的特点或者直接用一个描述性的名次短语来给一个人昵称。例如：Mr. Handsome 可以指一位相貌出众的帅哥， Mr. Big Nose 可以用来称呼一大鼻子哥们儿， Mr. Determination 可以形容以很有决心的人， Mr. “I don’t know”可以用来称呼凡事总是 “I don’t know”的哥们儿。遇到物品，例如谈一样有用的设备，我就会说“well, I am going to talk about my little girlfriend then…” 考官听到这里刚要纳闷怀疑我是不是没读懂题目，就听到我接着说到“…my iPod, a very trendy mp3 player and also a very useful electronic device, which I would always take along with me wherever I go.”此时，考官就会恍然大悟。“哦，原来这哥们儿在运用修辞，在玩幽默，还把自己的iPod当成了女朋友。呵呵，真是有心了。”当然还有很多其他的例子，考生完全可以充分发挥自己的想象力来使自己的回答更加生动有趣。

雅思口语技巧三：讲故事法

大多数中国考生要么往往因为自己根本没有思路不知道如何回答考官的问题，要么就是因为英文能力不足，无法用抽象的语言把自己的论证用流畅的正确的英文表达出来。可是话说回来，如果让任何一个考生用英文描述一个故事，应该还是很容易的。大家论证问题不行，讲个故事还是蛮可以的嘛。也就是说，如果考官让考生解释一个想象，阐述一个原因，考生完全可以用讲故事的方法代替。例如，在第二部分就考过describe one important decision的主题卡片。考生要回答这个决定是什么，在什么情况下作出这样的决定，为什么做出这样的决定，以及这个决定为什么重要。假如说我们讲这个重要的决定是去英国读书，有的学生可能就将英国的教育质量如何如何得好，在英国可以如何如何的提高英语，还有可以如何如何的开阔眼界。难道中国的教育质量就不好吗?在国内学习英文就比国外差了吗?去其他国家就不能开阔眼界了吗?从所有这些都看不出去英国去得那么必然。即使有道理，那么用英文又能流利的表达这些意思吗?可是如果采用讲故事的方法不但很容易用英文进行表达，而且也能够用自己真实的(或者是虚构的)经历来说明自己去英国留学是这么的必然。考生可以从自己去机场送女朋友或者男朋友去英国读书开始，描述当时离别时的痛苦因为自己很爱他/她，不能失去他/她，所以自己在那个时候如何promise him/her 无论有多么困难都一定也会去英国陪他/她，不让他/她在那边孤独寂寞。这就从一个侧面反映了自己做出的重要决定以及为什么。这样完全规避了长篇空洞的论述，而能够收到一种以情动人的效果。具体还可以参考一下第二部分重要决定哪个主题卡片的回答与讲解。

History was my favourite subject in my academic year and I have learned so many things from the history books I read and learned from teachers related to history and they were so interesting that I later did my graduation majoring History.

Learning about the past history is something that gives us real knowledge about our country, the world and about the human race. I read History in my grade 7 and found it very interesting. This subject taught us about the past of your world, how the social and economical condition was and how the world has been shaped with the different events throughout the time. After that, I become so interested on this subject that I started reading books on History from different writers. There is a famous saying that, “to shape the future you must know the past” and History teaches us that. I had been lucky to have some great teachers who have tremendous way of explaining the topics of History. To me, other subjects like literature and Math were also interesting but I felt a different passion on History.

After I finished my school, I took History as my major and that has greatly influenced me the way I look at the world and to the past and future. Reading and learning history was like traveling through time and generations that excited me so much.
